I would greatly encourage you to check out this summary of new features added since 2016 and a product video or two of new things in 2021 before you proceed so you can better understand what has changed over the years and whyДЄrnold is the default renderer in 2021 instead of scanline and while it supports many older maps, it doesn't support all of them. the most significant changes in max since 2015 are probably the removal of mental ray and the adoption of arnold as the default renderer since these affect everyone regardless of their workflow however, in classic max fashion (for better or worse) very little is actually removed or inaccessible to you. there are 6 years of changes and of course some things will be different. You just jumped 6 versions and 6 years into the future. I'm so disappointed with what they've done.Д¬an anyone at least point me to proper learning material for the newest max? There's just link to useless autodesk stuff that guides you to their youtube channel with very few tutorials and even those are for the older max. On top of that, the old style of help and tutorials is gone(?). In the olden days you could just pull up a simple material and fiddle with its own coordinate stuff where the tiling and offsets are.

I guess I'm supposed to link up these plugs and sockets with some logic but they don't connect the way I thought they would. It gets converted and I lose the materials because the slate material editor works differently. I have my old file for rendering sprites for my game, but when I try to open it with the new max. The actual question I have is this: how do I make a gradient material based on world coordinates?.

Where's the old general materials? For a moment I had Corona renderer and then I applied the update and now I only have Arnold? Why does autodesk keep doing this, they change things and completely abandon old systems that people have been using happily. I moved from max 2015 to 2021 and I'm so confused.
